A Window to the Future our Junior ‘Tour Down Under' is coming to Angaston Again this April
The Wirtgen Group - Centrals Junior Tour is a premium cycling event for around 80 young Men & Women, the race brings riders and visitors from all over Australia to stay & enjoys the Barossa Valley. Past winners have risen to international fame and professional racing glory. The tour could be considered a window to the future having produced its share of winners for the Santos Tour Down Under & Santos Women’s Tour.
The 2 Day 4 Stage Road Cycling Race is to be held on the 8-9th April 2017 and has a ‘Tour Village’ at The SA Company Store in Angaston. It is an exciting event based on time, the fastest individual rider after 4 stages is the winner. Riders compete for the Leaders Jersey ‘General Classification’ just like The Tour Down Under. There are sprint points called KOM, ‘King-of-Mountain’ at spectacular locations such as Mengler Hill.
Now in its 50th year the first Junior Tour was held in the late 60’s hosted by Rovally Estate Wines at Jacobs Creek. Previously known as The ‘Santos Junior Tour’ it is now known as The ‘Wirtgen Group - Centrals Junior Tour’ and has enjoyed many naming sponsors in its history. It is a Not for Profit Event, sponsorship is invested in event management & safety for juniors and is run by volunteers.
This is the second year the Wirtgen Group have supported this event and the 50th anniversary edition promises to be the best yet.
Our event is regarded as one of the safest Junior Tours in Australia, a Pro Tour atmosphere with horns & flashing lights complete with a convoy of lead cars, race officials, medical support vehicles, mobile communications and accredited corner marshals.
Chris Menz at ‘The Company Kitchen’ and South Australian Company Store in Angaston will host the event. It is a wonderful Barossa property featuring a delicious menu from breakfast through to dinner in the licensed restaurant. Around 120 guests including riders will celebrate the first day’s results at a presentation dinner.
